Alan Reid calls on the SNP government to extend ferry compensation scheme

18 Sep 2025

Alan Reid has called on the SNP government to extend the business compensation scheme to all communities impacted by ferry disruption.

In June, the Scottish Government announced a fund to support businesses on just eight islands affected by disruption to ferry services.

Key island and coastal communities such as Mull, Islay, Tiree, Coll, Iona, Jura, Dunoon and Campbeltown, amongst others, have all been excluded from the scheme, despite suffering from the ferry fiasco.

In the Scottish Parliament today, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP raised the issue directly with the First Minister, asking him to explain why the areas left out will receive no compensation.
