Alan Reid calls for new ferries for CalMac’s Dunoon-Gourock service
The two ferries on the Dunoon-Gourock route are in such a bad state that one of them has been out of service for over six months. No date has yet been fixed for its return.
Even when it returns, there will not be two ferries for long because the other one will have to go for its annual refit.
It is obvious to everybody that these boats are not up to the job. They are often out of service due to mechanical failure. Even when they are in service, they can’t cope with the weather conditions frequently experienced on this route.
Despite making many promises of new ferries over the past 18 years, the SNP Government have still not announced that they will actually build new ferries for this route.
Alan Reid says, “A reliable service on the Dunoon-Gourock route is vital for people without access to a car or who don’t want the expense of taking their car across the Clyde.
“New ferries must be built as soon as possible.”
